Texas Institute
of
Equine Dentistry
1. I don't
understand your class schedule....please explain
We run 4 class sessions a year spaced approximately
3 months apart. Each session runs 2 weeks in length.
2. Can I
begin class with any session?
You may begin class with any session throughout the
year. Your completion date must be eighteen (18)
months from
the date you start.
3. When will
next years schedule be available?
We try to have the upcoming years schedule set by
October of the current year. As soon as it becomes
available, it will be posted on our website.
4. Why must
I show proof of
previous education?
As we are licensed as a Career School by the Texas
Workforce Commission, we are considered a
"secondary" school; therefore, you must have
completed your main education before you are
eligible to attend a "secondary" school. Proof of
prior education is required for verification of
completion.
5. What
kinds of grants and/or financing do you offer or
accept?
Grants:
Texas Institute of Equine Dentistry has been approved by
the Department of Veteran Affairs Vocational
Rehabilitation Program in Texas (chapter 31 only.)
and DARS (Division for Rehabilitation Services -
Vocational Rehabilitation Services) in Texas.
The Working Ranch Cowboy Foundation Scholarship Fund (WCRF)
offers scholarships to students affiliated with a
working ranch cowboy. Contact
janeen@wrca.org for
qualification information and an application.
6. How soon
after graduating can I begin to practice?
Immediately. You must remember, you may only
practice at the level at which you are trained. Upon
completion of DT101 and before you return for DT103
to test, you will need to bring 100 documented cases
with you as part of your graduation process. You
will need to begin practicing as soon as you finish
your first class.
7. When I
graduate will I be "certified"?
No, you will be a graduate. TIED does not offer a
certification program
8. Does my
tuition include books & tools?
Your tuition is broken down and paid for by session.
DT101 cost includes books and tool rental. You
will need to purchase your own set of tools before
you attend DT102. The cost for our Head and Neck
Anatomy course includes your books.
9. Do you
provide lodging?
If you have an RV or Horse Trailer w/living
quarters, you may hook up here at our facility for
$10.00 per day; otherwise, you will need to
seek alternate lodging. A list of local hotels is
included in your initial information packet.
10. Are
there very many females who attend your school?
Absolutely! The field of equine dentistry is
definitely on an equal playing field between men and
women. Our classes are usually about half &
half.
11. Will I
learn how to sedate?
No. Our school teaches the art of equine
dentistry. Sedation is administered by our
veterinarian on staff.
12. Do I
have to work with a vet or can I practice on my own?
You will need to check the laws within the state in
which you wish to practice upon graduation. We
stress the importance of having a good working
relationship with a veterinarian at all times.
13. What
does the law read for my state regarding equine
dentistry?
You will need to check with your state offices. The
laws vary in each and every state so you will need
to check for the locations in which you intend to
practice.
14. Is your
school accredited and/or licensed?
We are not an accredited school as of yet but we are licensed
by the State of Texas Workforce Commission. We hope
to have our accreditation status within the 2009
school year.
15. How many
students do you take at each session?
We take a maximum of 24 students total with a
maximum of 10 of them being first time students. Our
classes run simultaneously so you may be a first
time student in class w/a second and a third time
student. The only difference between the levels is
the degree of difficulty administered in the wetlab.
16. What are
your class hours?
For week 1 of each session the morning begins around
8:45am running until around 5pm. For week 2 of each
session the morning begins around 8:00am running
until you finish your work in the wetlab. The office
hours are 9:00am-4:00pm
17. I'm a
client and want to bring my horse in for treatment,
what do I need to do?
You may call our office and have your name put on a
list for our next upcoming session. We begin
calling clients the week before our class session
begins to schedule. Please bear in mind, the list is
usually long and it's possible you may not get
called right away.
18. Can I
bring my horses and my dog with me to class?
You may bring your horse to board while you are here
for $10.00 per day stall fee. Please be
aware...we do not offer a turn out area and you
are responsible for cleaning your stall on a DAILY
basis. As far as dogs....please make arrangements to
board them before you come. We do not allow them on
our grounds.
19. Can I
tour the school in advance?
Absolutely! We would love for you to come tour
the school. Just call the office to let us know when
you plan to visit. Please remember our class
schedules and if possible try to time your visit
during a session. We do realize that is not always
possible but it would give you a good feeling of how
things work by seeing it as it's happening.
Your choice though, you may visit at any time!
20. Can I
just take six (6) weeks straight in a row to
complete?
No. You must complete 3 sessions in order to
graduate. As we are not a regular school, we are not
open year round. Out of the 4 sessions a year we
offer, you must complete 3 of them. You will need to
return home to work between sessions.
21. Are cell
phones allowed during class?
No. Please leave your cell phones in your vehicles
during class.

internet availability?
Our classroom is equipped with internet services but
it is not for student use. If you feel the need to
check email, surf the web, etc.. You will need to

card. It is not acceptable to be utilizing your
laptop during class so please leave it in your
vehicle.
